What is a wiki?
A wiki is an online collaboration tool through which multiple users can create and modify the contents of a website. For a fuller description of what a wiki is, see the wiki entry in the Wikipedia.
Why did AAPN design and launch "Apparelpedia"?
There are many different sources for much of the information contained in Apparelpedia, but it has never been collected in one place until now. Rather than spend a year or years creating an encyclopedia of association knowledge using a cumbersome and hard-to-manage volunteer structure, we decided to push the task out to any member or site user who wants to get involved. The ongoing updating and the wide variety of voices involved in Apparelpedia ensures that it will remain relevant and up-to-date. The power to contirbute, highlight personal skills and educate the industry on your specialty will be strictly restricted to AAPN members-only.
If anybody can edit the information, how do I know it is accurate?
Not anyone can enter or update information. There will be 3 categories or "rings" of "users" of this resource. The first and outer ring are readers. They can log on, read but they can neither change nor contribute to the content. The second ring are AAPN members who will enjoy an unlimited capability to contribute to the content of our resource. The center ring and core of the content will be administration to post and change all content which, at this early stage, is restricted to the AAPN staff in Atlanta, GA. This is very much a site full of information for industry professionals provided by industry professionals and the supporting community. That said, we are confident that Apparelpedia is by and large filled with entries from people who are trying to add to the body of knowledge in an accurate and meaningful way. As you read and research in Apparelpedia, you should consider the source and trust your instincts as to what is valid and what should be questioned. (And please do use the comments section to question any entries you find lacking or otherwise objectionable.)
If I see something that appears to be inaccurate, what should I do?
We need your help to stay on top of updating and correcting entries that appear to be inaccurate. Apparelpedia makes it easy for you to share your expertise and knowledge with us and the community-at-large by editing existing entries. The more individuals who engage on a particular entry the more well rounded and complete each entry becomes. At this early stage of development, simply send an email to sue@aapnetwork.net or miketodaro@mindspring.com with a copy of the original content and what you think ought to change. Eventually, we will begin to expand the base of administrators who can become trusted agents of change and maintenance of the site.
